Friday!

weeeeeeeeeeeeeee......its Friday already! Normally I'd be pretty stoked for the weekends but found out that for work we are on a 6 day schedule until September. Boo. Also, I've got a long list of chores that need to be done Boo x2.
1. Clean the house - working 12-14 hour days doesn't equal a clean house ( this is bizzare who messes it up when I'm not even home to mess it up!!)
2. Ballet class
3. Maybe a hair cut and color
4. Going to see an indie film, Winnebago Man in Hollywood

Back to work for this one..

I went in for 2 interviews yesterday and one called me back and wanted me to start this morning. So I'm off! Loved this cute little illustration of a girl at work.

For those who are curious! I am going to be working at a visual effects house in Santa Monica, California working on feature films as a production assistant. It was the field that I wanted to work in and so instead of getting a job anywhere I waited until I was hired to work in this particular field! I guess waiting paid off for me! I do apologize if postings are light for the upcoming weeks as I transition from being unemployed to employed!

Open Mouth

and stick foot in. That is what I should do. About a month ago I told some people that I would never go to the Los Angeles Public Library because its annoying ( and expensive) to park, the homeless/weird people that loiter freak me out, and a bunch of other reasons.

Today, at 11:30 a.m. I became a proud Los Angeles Public Library member. So lets go back a few hours. I just dropped my friend off at the airport and I stopped at Target to get a few things and while there I perused the book aisle looking for "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan. My friend who was in town visiting was reading it and I was curious about it. Well Target didn't carry it but they had another one of his books that was approximately 4"x 6" and maybe 50-100 pages. I am a mega fast reader so this bitty book would have taken me all of 5 minutes ( ok fine. probably 30-45 minutes ) to read it thoroughly and priced at $9.90. I held it for a few seconds and then I realized I would much rather have my trip to Europe this fall then a $10 book. I imagined all the wonderful things I could enjoy with my $10 ( or converted probably 7 euros) in Europe. So I put the book down and resolved to get a library card. Ack. This is the part where I should shove the foot in my mouth. I said I would NEVER and look at me less than a month away and I am a brand new LAPL member. Needless to say, I'm a big fat liar. So please don't take my "I will never's" so serious they probably will last a month at the longest.

Anyways, while today at the library I had two things happen. First, a man tried to pick me up while I was browsing the books on tape. I at first thought he was asking to borrow my phone. He motioned with the phone and eyebrow thing at me and being in a relationship for over 8 years I kind of forget what getting picked up looks like. Second, I rented Fame, the new movie, and absolutely loved it. I watched the New Fame while reading my rented Self magazine.

I am a huge fan of the OG fame from the 80's and was really hoping they didn't buther this one too much by bringing it up to date with the current trends.

Luckily, they didnt (not in my opinion). I was in love with the dancers and the updated feel of the movie. I died over the carnivale scene. It was ahhmazing. I figured that today from getting my LAPL ( los angeles public library) card I saved myself around $20 dollars by renting the books not buying them. Also, its environmentally friendly, I pay for it in my taxes already, and I could potentially have a new boyfriend if I was ever looking. The bad part about the library ( besides the potential pickup) is I really wanted to take a shower after leaving. The place gives me the skeevies and the old man playing online poker at the computers didn't give me much hope for the clientele at the library, nor did the bearded lady researching family birthday parties ( what? I don't get this one either!)

Coco Chanel - the movie

Yesterday afternoon I watched the Coco Chanel movie with Shirley McClaine and Malcom McDowell. I honestly was expecting it to be a bit boring but it was acctually a really tragic love story. Speculation is that people aren't sure if the early years of Coco are true or if it was stories she fabricated to make her life more interesting. She does stretch the truth a bit in the movie and you can understand why there would be concern that she actually told the truth about her childhood. Anyways, the movie is great running a bit over 2 hours. It was such a sad romance story she had. I absolutely loved the love of her life " Boy." He is so handsome and right up my alley of looks in men.

Anyways, a couple of movie stills. If you have a couple of hours to kill and you're a big fan of fashion. Its definitely worth checking out this movie.

Hope you enjoy the movie as much as I did if you decide to check out this movie.

The Edge of Love

Just finished watching this movie on netflix. Not sure how I felt about it. I really like Matthew Rhys ( brother and sisters!) who plays Dylan Thomas but I absolutely can't stand Keira Knightley. She always looks like she has her nose sucked in. Go look. Now next time you watch one of her movies that is all you will see. Plus this movie is set during WWII. Didn't Kiera already just make a love story set in WWII. Come on lets get some fresh beautiful actresses hollywood! To make matters worse she marries Cillian Murphy ( barf) what a creep after watching that scary movie where he stalks a girl on a plane! Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, I loved that Sienna Miller played Dylan Thomas' wife. She was amazing and tolerant! What a cheat Dylan Thomas was!!

Check out these gorgeous stills from the film! It looks like they're clothing came straight from an Anthropologie store! Love it!!

And the trailer in case you've never heard/seen of this movie! I seriously get the best use out of watching netflix movies on my computer. We have the $18 package per month and I think that maybe we watch 2-3 movies a month on disc but through instant watch, I see at least 10-15.

Ciao for today unless I find something else brilliant to blog about! but I think I'm going to go pop in season 3 of Dexter and watch those while Jack is still working.

Vampire's Assistant

On Halloween we didn't end up doing anything that was really Halloween-ie per say but I did manage to drag Jack to the theater to see this teen flick. I knew deep down that it was going to be very teenage-y and probably not the best movie but I was in the mood for it.

I didn't love the movie but it was entertaining enough. I liked John C. Reilly's character a lot and he had some good one liners and Selma Hayek was a funny beard growing lady who's bear grew when she was turned on by a man ( which would really suck!) . Over all it was probably a 2/5 stars movie but worth checking out if you like those kind of corny halloween movies that I can't get enough of! One of my favorite corny halloween movies is from the 80's and is soooooo corny but I can't help but watch it every single year is:

Worst Witch

Teen Witch

Oh gotta love those 80s cheesey movies. What's some of your favs? You know i've never seen "pretty in pink". I suck.

End of Vacation Week :(

Argh...I'm probably the worst person to sum up in a few paragrahps why something is good but tonight on our last night of vacation I'm watching one of my favorite movies. "The Fall" is an amazing fairy tale-esque story done by Tarem Singh. He is one of my favorite directors because he has such amazing visuals. He also directed " The Cell." I tend to really like movies that are based on fairy tales, another one of my faovirte movies is "Pan's Labryinth," to watch these movies makes my creative juices just bubble.

One of the first scenes of the "fairy tale" part of the story. The tree is acctually a man who is a mystic to help them defeat the villian of the fairy tale. A lot of the movie is very virbrant and beautiful landscapes.

This is a still of Roy and Alexandria who are the main characters of the movie. This little girl is so adorable!

A synopsis from IMDB

"While young Alexandria is recuperating from a fractured arm in a Los Angeles Hospital, she befriends another patient, Roy Walker, who tells a variety of tales, including one about Emperor Alexander, and the second story of six men: Luigi - an explosions expert; a Native American Indian; A runaway slave; an East Indian swordsman; a masked bandit; and Charles Darwin - all on a quest to kill oppressive Spanish Governor Odious for individually inflicting atrocities on each and every one of them. She soon becomes embroiled in this tale and starts mixing fiction with reality not realizing that Roy is using her to procure a drug for him."

I highly recommend the movie if you want to be entertained and see some amazing landscapes/visual. I also really like his other movie "The Cell" for similar reasons but that one is much scarier! I'm pretty sure Blockbuster carries this movie otherwise I bet Netflix has it!

On another note of Lee Pace ( Roy), Pushing Dasies has 3 lost episodes that they are playing on Saturday nights. This was one of my favorite shows last year and I have been soooo bummed that it was cancelled. It was absolutely stunning visually and just so different from what is on t.v. Deffinetly worth checking it out if you have some spare time.

Well I'm going to go enjoy my movie and eat some dinner!

Cheers-
